Ghee and Ayurveda in Autumn

Ghee is a clarified butter that not only tastes great, but can be a healthy addition to your kitchen in Fall.

Autumn is an ideal season to add ghee to your diet. According to Ayurveda, during Autumn, it’s advised to increase your intake of heavy, oily and sweet foods, like ghee, to create a Vata balance in the body.

Not only is Ghee tasty, but it’s also incredibly versatile. Along with its buttery taste, ghee has a distinct roasted, nutty, fragrance. It’s an easy swap for butter or olive oil. It has a high heat point, so it’s perfect for cooking where olive oils can’t. And in Autumn, roasted veggies, soups, and warming foods are a staple!

Ghee provides a source of vitamins A, D, E and K, and aids in the body’s absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and minerals from other foods, so by cooking or eating vegetables or other healthy foods along with ghee, your body may have access to more of their nutrients.

Try Ghee on toast, in your oatmeal, or even in your warm drinks and allow it to improve Agni (digestive fire) and nourish  Ojas (immunity) and Tejas (metabolic fire). (read more about that here!)
